Birds receive color bands so that people can recognize individuals as they return to feeders throughout the season and year after year. Please see our blog for more on these events.
Upcoming Events
Lake Ozark - February 23rd and 24th: Conservation Federation of Missouri convention. Conservation in our state would not be where it is without CFM. This extremely informative and interactive convention is open to all Missourians interested in wildlife and natural resources.
Jefferson City - March 3rd: Public education event at the Runge Nature Center hosted by the River Bluffs Audubon Society. All are welcome at this banding demonstration and informal discussion about Missouri birds. 12:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Marshall - March 27th: "Gardening for Birds and You", a class offered by the Saline County Career Center and taught by MRBO Director Dana Ripper. Learn about native Missouri plants that will benefit birds and other wildlife, and also some of their medicinal properties. Saline County - April 10th: Grand Pass Conservation Area and Van Meter State Park migration monitoring stations open for the season! Operation daily at Grand Pass and intermittently at Van Meter until May 31st. Anyone is welcome to visit these stations to see many colorful migrant songbirds in the hand, and learn about MRBO's long-term monitoring program. Please call to schedule your date! (660) 886-8788.
Duck Creek Conservation Area - April 13th - 15th: The Midwest Conclave of The Wildlife Society, hosted by the University of Central Missouri. Students from all over the Midwest will converge on southeastern Missouri for a fun-filled, educational event.
Warrensburg - April 21st: The University of Central Missouri's Annual Bio-Blitz. Join MRBO and wildlife students from UCMO for an inventory of all living creatures at Pertle Springs Park just outside of Warrensburg. All are welcome at this public event that begins with bird-banding at 7:00 and continues all day with surveys of mammals, reptiles, and more!
