Missouri River Bird Observatory

Science

Missouri River Bird Observatory is a science-based organization with much of its energy devoted to monitoring bird populations. Most work focuses on grassland and wetland birds and we hire seasonal technicians to help with point counts and to enter data. This data is analyzed and summarized in our various annual reports.

Education

We combine the science with another piece of our mission, outreach & education, to help teach community scientists about Missouri's birds. We schedule acitivites for K-12 schools and home schoolers, college biology departments, and present various programs for civic clubs, senior centers, garden clubs and more.

Advocacy

Working with important partners in the policy realm, MRBO’s advocacy work is non-partisan and focused on wildlife and habitat issues. Policy advocacy takes place primarily in the state of Missouri, though at times we partner with conservation groups in other states to work on regional or federal policy.
