Burroughs Audubon Society of Kansas City

We have been very fortunate in our association with the Burroughs Audubon Society. Beginning with a group field trip to Grand Pass Conservation Area in September 2010, and continuing with many visits from individual Burroughs members, we at MRBO have felt lucky to be associated with this excellent, active Audubon Society. BAS recently hosted us for a banding demonstration at their Nature Center outside of Blue Springs, MO (photos courtesy of Sherry Leonardo and Sean O'Daniels). We look forward to future activities with Burroughs that further both our organizations' education and outreach missions. Burroughs Audubon

Burroughs Audubon Visits our Shorebird Banding Site
Above: About 35 Burroughs members visited our shorebird banding site in a field trip led by Sherry Leonardo. We were unable to catch any shorebirds at all that day....but the group was wonderful.
Below: "Bags o' Birds" waiting to be banded and measured in front of a crowd at the Burroughs Library at Fleming Park, Blue Springs, MO. We caught 38 birds at the Library's feeders that day, thanks to Michael and Elizabeth Stoakes' vigilant feeding throughout the winter.
Below: MOWEST Bander Larry Lade discusses sparrow ID with Burroughs members at the Burroughs Library banding demonstration.
Right: Catches of the Day: a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, our first bird of the day, and a Downy Woodpecker with an easily-recognizable yellow color band.
